competition proposal for a swimming hall in Havlíčkův Brod
The Ford and The Haven
This swimming complex in the town of Havlíčkův Brod (meaning Havlicek’s ford, named after a famous writer Karel Havlíček Borovský) is a competition proposal by Rusina Frei Architekts.
The area around is grass and gravel, aiming for a natural look without sacrificing parking and accessibility.
The site’s layout is dictated by surrounding nature: a meandering stream, and existing flora create a pocket of serene calm. Terrain shelters it from a bustling residential area and a nearby road, creating a place to relax and focus on what’s important.
We loved the elegance of glass walls and overhanging slabs. Just enough to create shade and soothing coolness, and letting as much light in, letting it interplay with the water. A uniquely comforting spectacle for the human eye.
